Some More Information About The Role
This position reports to the Head of Finance, co-leading the Financial Planning and Performance (FP&P) squad, (currently consisting of around 16 people) with the FP&P Lead - Internal. This role will collaborate closely with the FP&P Lead –
Internal as well as the Business Performance Leads of Customer, Wholesale and Generation. The FP&P team is a key enabler at Mercury, providing meaningful data and insights to drive performance and create value. Equally, the team plays a crucial role in preserving Mercury's value, enabling continued investment in New Zealand’s future. This role offers the chance to influence the company's future direction while leading a team dedicated to delivering excellence in financial planning and reporting.
Your key Responsibilities will include the following:
- Leading Mercury’s statutory and Crown reporting requirements – financial and climate including financial quantification of Mercury’s climate risks and opportunities.
- Leading the external audit (and review) with Mercury’s auditors (both internal and external).
- Leading technical positions on complex accounting issues including electricity derivatives.
- Lead the preparation of enterprise monthly P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, performance metrics and reporting as required.
- Support the FP&P Lead (Internal) for organisational management reporting at a strategic and operational level.
- Co-leading a team of 16 in the FP&P team.
So Who Are You, And What Is Your Profile?
You are a seasoned financial leader with over 10 years of experience, you will need to have a Big 4 background and strong technical accounting knowledge. You will be fully CA/CPA qualified and will already have experience delivering financial results to the Executive team and the Board. You possess strong commercial acumen, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and a proven track record of leading large teams in complex organisations. The ideal candidate will already be operating at Financial Controller level (or similar) in a large complex environment or alternatively you have come from Big 4 Audit (Associate Director level and above). Any background in the Energy/Utilities sector would also be an advantage.
Your commercial acumen is strong, allowing you to not only interpret financial data but also provide insights that drive key business decisions. You are adept at distilling large volumes of complex information into clear, actionable reports for executive and board-level stakeholders.
