About the Role
As Finance Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Commercial Manager in managing and maintaining the finance operations of the business. You will own all BAU accounting tasks, reporting, and compliance. With several direct reports, this role is integral to the growth of the business and will significantly impact their financial health and strategic planning.
Key responsibilities will include the following:
- Manage and oversee day-to-day financial operations.
- Collaborate closely with the Commercial Manager on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Take full ownership of month-end, balance sheet, management accounts, WIP reporting, compliance, and year-end processes.
- Oversee all project related accounting including working closely with project managers to ensure revenue and costs are captured correctly.
- Handle payroll, GST, and ensure overall financial compliance.
- Work with external accountants to prepare statutory financial statements and tax returns.
- Generate and analyse financial reports to support data-driven decision-making.
- Process improvement and assisting the Commercial manager in the implementation of new systems and procedures.
- Direct manager of all finance team members, supporting them in their learning and growth.
So Who Are You And What Is Your Profile?
To be considered, it is essential that you are CA qualified with at least 5 years’ experience in finance, ideally with 3 years in a managerial role. A background working for a New Zealand SME business would also be a real advantage.
You will be proficient in ERP systems, Xero experience is essential and any knowledge of Simpro would also be looked upon favourably. Experience in the construction sector, as well as with project accounting, is also something that would make your transition that bit easier. Your personality will also be key, you will need to be the type of person who takes ownership of tasks, you will have an analytical mindset who isn't afraid to delve into the numbers and you will be the type who likes to understand where the numbers are coming from and how a business operates.
You will have proven experience leading teams and mentoring staff, as well as building financial acumen across an organisation. With the business still experiencing growth, this is a real opportunity to be part of an exciting chapter in the years ahead.
