With 8 branches in the Auckland region, nurseries which grow beautiful plants (and certainty of supply) and a strong partnership with Daily Bread cafe’s, Kings has been well set up for a great future.

Kings is privately owned and well supported by its shareholder (The STILL Group), who are known for their investment in supporting businesses that help create a better NZ now and for future generations. Kings is ready and excited to embark on its next stage of growth and meaning.

The past few years has seen Kings redefine its operating model and invest for the future with a beautiful  new concept store opened in Stonefields and the purchase of Awa nursery - solidifying both its presence and supply chain.

With a team of 150 plant and garden enthusiasts,  Kings are passionate about plants and about helping their customers thrive in their gardens.  The branches are well led and excited about the Kings future - one that you could be a part of!


The CEO Role:

The CEO is responsible for leading the business and the Kings team into the future.  The role encompasses:

Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board to develop, set, and execute the company’s strategy, ensuring alignment with long-term goals.  

Financial Leadership: Provide strong financial and commercial leadership, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, to ensure the company’s fiscal health and sustainable growth.

Team Leadership and Development: Lead the team with a focus on culture, leadership development, training, and succession planning to build a strong, capable workforce.

Operational Management: Establish a consistent cadence for efficient retail operations, product procurement and management, and ensuring smooth and effective day-to-day functioning of operations.

Retail Culture and Customer Experience: Foster a strong retail culture that prioritises exceptional customer experience through well-designed systems and comprehensive team training.

Sales & Marketing Oversight: Support a customer led  sales and marketing approach, driving the evolution of customer experience (CX) to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure full compliance with all regulatory aspects of the business, including health & safety, employment, financial management, and operational standards.

This is a CEO role where you’ll enjoy both the strategic aspects of running a busy organisation, but have the ability (and autonomy) to be with your team and your customers and ensure Kings are delivering the best possible products and service to the community.

Your Profile: 

You'll have extensive experience in retail and retail leadership.  

You’ll have a passion for retail and most importantly, retail done exceptionally well.  

You lead with customer and your team in mind, you are forward focussed with a strong vision of retail for the future
  
Your skills and previous experience likely includes:
  • Well developed business and commercial acumen including change environments and particularly in growth areas in the retail space.
  • Proven leadership and strong retail experience. You'll understand the retail environment in detail, you have strong evidence of success and results in retail. You clearly understand the KPI's necessary to drive a high performing retail business and culture.
  • Effective leadership.  You'll be a strong, visionary leader who is ambitious and inclusive.  You'll also be a leader from the 'shop-floor', someone who is willing and able to get stuck in while also capable of setting a strong culture and vision for the future.
  • You’ll have strong financial acumen and the ability to interpret financial reports for commercial discussion and analysis and interpretation of results and strategy.
  • Experience in strategy development, the ability to strategically think as well as to challenge thought processes.  You'll be an active participant in articulating and executing on the strategy ahead.
  • You’ll have led a support office team encompassing finance, HR, operations and sales & marketing.
  • Effectively working with the board.  You'll enjoy working with a strong board who are equally ambitious for the organisation’s future
  • You’re likely looking for a strong retail brand which has a lot of potential to grow and take opportunities.  You’re ideally looking for a mid sized retailer which has the strength of size but the nimbleness of a smaller retailer.
  • You are a relationship builder and someone who values strong partnerships.  You’ll be able to embrace a wonderful segment of retail in NZ and play a part in creating community connections.
